Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism

 

Ms. Nasreen Jahan assumed the prestigious role of Secretary to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and took charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on September 18, 2024. She is a highly dynamic and dedicated civil servant with over three decades of distinguished service, having held key leadership positions across various government sectors.

 

Ms. Jahan began her professional career in academia as a Lecturer in Pharmacology at a Medical College, where she taught for two years. In 1993, she transitioned into civil service, starting as Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in Tangail (1992-1993). Over the years, she progressed through a range of significant roles, including Assistant Director at the Directorate of National Savings (1995-1999) and Assistant Secretary and Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Defense (1999-2001). She also served as Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Education (2003-2007), where she continued her impactful work in the public sector.

 

A pivotal milestone in her career came in 2007 when she was appointed First Secretary (Labor) at the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Dubai (2007-2013), where she gained invaluable international experience and honed her diplomatic skills.

 

From 2013 to 2017, Ms. Jahan contributed significantly as Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Public Administration. Her tenure at the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment from 2017 to 2023 showcased her leadership abilities in shaping policies that supported migrant welfare and overseas employment. During this period, she fostered partnerships with leading global organizations like IOM, ILO, and UN Women. Her exemplary leadership was recognized with the prestigious Asia Women Leaders Program Award by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 2016.

 

Most recently, she served as Senior Specialist for Partnership and Capacity Building at IOM before her appointment as Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in September 2024.

 

Ms. Jahan's commitment to personal and professional development is evident through her extensive training and international exposure. She has participated in numerous workshops and seminars across the USA, Canada, UAE, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, China, Japan, the Philippines, and more, continuously expanding her knowledge and skills. A sought-after speaker, mentor, and trainer, she regularly shares her insights and experiences, inspiring the next generation of leaders in various forums, institutions, and organizations.

 

With a solid academic foundation and practical expertise, Ms. Jahan holds a B.Sc. Medical (Honors) (1989) and an M.Sc. Medical (1991) in Pharmacology from the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Research (IPGMR). She also earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy (2003) with high distinction from Monash University, Australia, through the esteemed AusAid scholarship.

 

Born into a respected Muslim family in Dhaka, Ms. Nasreen Jahan enjoys a fulfilling family life while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. She is married and a proud mother of two daughters.
